Message from the President
Local 2612 Members,
As we move into full swing of the Summer of 2008, many things continue to take shape and progress within Local 2612 and SCFD. Here are some examples:
· contract negotiations with County officials---progressing well!
· July 1st, 2008---Market Adjustment of Pay Compensation for Firefighters (3% increase) and Lieutenants (1% increase) approved by BOCC 6/18/08
· Accreditation – Site visit brought about recommendations for improvement---recommendation for Re-Accreditation goes before CFAI in August 2008
· Station 32 re-located into NEW facility.
· New station 35 with SCEMS and Brand new station 39 still being worked on….
· Promotions and Retirements are in full swing….
· Building Inspections are in full swing as well…
August will bring the IAFF 49th Convention in Las Vegas , NV . Myself, Vice President Hayes, and Secretary / Treasurer Wilson will be attending this Convention and learning about the IAFF and the 2nd District that represents our Local----what they can do for us. Focus will be placed on ISO issues in the Fire Service, Accreditation, FMLA and the Firefighter, etc. Also, the District Vice President election for the 2nd District will be decided at this Convention----we will carry Local 2612’s votes along with votes from Johnson County .
In closing, our department as well as our IAFF Local are taking shape thru retirements, promotions, transfers, and probie classes. It is projected that within the next 3 years that nearly HALF of the Operations Level personnel will have 5 years or less employment with SCFD. The time is now to educate and train on the intricacies and details of “the job” to ensure that our communities and our personnel function at the highest levels possible. Take advantage of your senior guys and tap the knowledge of the alarms and the mistakes gone by to learn and become a better firefighter, make a difference for yourself, your family, and your fellow man within the communities we serve.
Take Care, and Be Safe.
Professionally,
Dave “jr” Thompson
President
IAFF Local 2612
